AICE MEDIA STUIDES PROJECT

I decided to interview the creative director of Sailor Circus, Jared Walker. He has been with the program for a while now and is quite knowledgeable about the circus arts, as well as the theatre. He used to work in theatre as a creative director but has always had a passion for circus.  I set up an interview with him for Tuesday, December 2nd. I set up this time because that was worked for us both, seeing as he has an extremely busy schedule. It was extremely nice of him to volunteer some of his time for me to be able to do this project. Questions I Plan to Ask: How did you get involved in circus? Where do you see circus going in the future? How has circus impacted your life? What would you say to people who are interested in circus but don't know how to get involved in the community? ACE Magazine  ACE Magazine is an online magazine that is all about the circus arts. Its based in America, and talks about circus all over the world. The cover of the magazine just features one large photograph and the company logo, and thats all. The simple design is actually very appealing, even though it might not necessarily grab a readers attention. On the site, there aren't very many ads as it is a small magazine. However, there is a tab where you can contact them to place an ad on the site. The articles cover all kinds of circus related things. They talk about circus event and festivals, training, and educate people about the circus arts. Theres a variety of shot types in the magazine, as they feature many photos of different circus disciplines. The magazine has a readership of around 3000. It has not won any awards.

International Gymnast Magazine International Gymnast is an American gymnastics magazine that is extremely well known throughout the gymnastics world. The cover features a famous gymnast, and that photo takes up most of the space on the cover.The title test is extremely bold and grabs your attention right away. The use of the blue, yellow, and reddish pink would draw attention if it was just sitting on a shelf.  The articles in the magazine talk about different events going on in the gymnastic world, how to have healthy training practices, and how to prevent serious injury. They also have interviews with professional gymnasts and coaches. The ads for the magazine revolve around mostly gymnastic competitions and gymnastic equipment. It seems to be about 50% ads and 50% actual content.  The photos in the magazine are all photos related to some sort of gymnastic content. The magazine has a distribution of about 50,000. It has not won any awards.

He wanted us to get familiar with the camera and the different options it had. It also taught us how to set up the shots, so we know how to get a variety of different shots for our projects.

Dance Magazine Dance Magazine is one of the most widely read dance magazines in publication today. The cover of the magazine usually features one large photo of a dancer or choreographer that the main article is about. The color palette is fairly simple, so it doesn't distract from the text on it. The title is big, but it doesn't take the attention away from any of the other features. The cover also features smaller text that tells about the other articles in the magazine. The magazine talks about all kinds of dance and is read extremely widely. The ads in the magazine mostly relate to things in the dance community such as Juilliard. Its a pretty fair split between the number of ads and actual content thats fleshed out. They have a readership of about 300,000 people. Every year, the magazine gives out awards for excellence in the dance world.

CircusMagazine CircusMagazine is a Dutch magazine, centered in Flanders, that is all about the circus arts. The cover features a large main photograph of a circus artist, with the title at the top. The color palette of white, black, and pops of red make it very cohesive and everything flows nicely together. At the bottom of the cover, there are article titles in small print so it doesn't distract from the main image. In the top left corner, there is identifying information about the magazine like its serial number. For articles, theres a lot of profiles and interviews. They also have a lot of articles about the history of the circus throughout Europe. There aren't really any ads as it is a smaller magazine and has a highly niche audience. Most of the photos in the magazine are images of performers, coaches, or shots of practices. As of the most recent update, CircusMagazine has about 4,500 readers. It hasn't won any awards.

Sports Illustrated Magazine  For the cover of Sports Illustrated, they have a picture taking up the majority of the space. In the issue I looked at, it was Emoni Bates who the main story was on. They also have several smaller blurbs that advertise what other articles are inside. The cover isn't too busy, so it doesn't overwhelm the reader. It features the title in the classic font, that is consistent across all their issues; the rest of the cover follows the same format as the others but there is some variety. For the table of contents, it follows the same format as a standard table of contents. Theres a little description of each of the main article and then it has the things that are in every issue. The articles for the magazine, they center around different kinds of sports. In this specific issue, it seems to focus on mostly basketball but they also talk about golf, football, and baseball too. They also have articles about problems that are happening in the sports world. ...
